If you planning to “Upgrading Ubuntu 16.04 LTS to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS” then you are right place. 🙂
The ubuntu operating system’s latest Long Term Support (LTS) release, Yes i am talking about Ubuntu 18.04, it was release in month of April, 2018.
Step 1: Ubuntu 16.04 for LTS Release
Ubuntu 16.04 is a LTS release… so you should be able to upgrade to the next LTS release easily… since Ubuntu 18.04 is also an LTS release, upgrading should be smooth.. To set Ubuntu or validate that it’s configured for LTS releases, open Ubuntu Dashboard and search for Software & Updates… then select it to open.
After open, You will be able to see below screen, check that the Updates Tab and select that Notify me of a new Ubuntu version is set for long-term support version or LTS. If not, Please select it and save your changes.
Step 2: Update Ubuntu 16.04 Desktops
First we are going to make sure the desktops is update with the latest packages. This is the standard process. for update packages, open dashboard (click window key) and search for Software Updater,
After click on it, click the button to Install Now.
After this you can then begin upgrading to the latest Ubuntu Desktop Version.
Step 3: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
Press Alt + F2 on your keyboard to open the run command box. this box allows you to run Ubuntu command. when it opens, type
After that, it should open the upgrade wizard to upgrade Ubuntu
Click the Upgrade button to begin the wizard… follow the on-screen instructions and continue
When everything is ready, click the Start Upgrade button
After Ubuntu is upgraded, you should be able to restart and start using the new Ubuntu!
